Intuit Construction Industry Survey

Contractors face roadblocks to growth: Intuit survey

Very interesting information about contractors - especially concerning the fact that 45% of the contractors felt that integrated software systems were critical for growth. Integrated will always be better than seperate, even seperate best-of-breed technology systems.

There are many other fantastic details that the survey offers regarding the industry - what I find the most interesting about these surveys is how they make you feel like you are not alone in the problems you face. Often small businesses feel that they are the only ones suffering from certain problems. Surveys like this show that all businesses, from the billion dollar contractor down to the 1 service van operation all have very similar problems.

The great thing about this fact is that the solutions are also very similar - a $50 million dollar contractor can learn a lot from a 6 person, well-oiled machine.

Managing insurance risk for contractors is constantly becoming more challenging. This is a fantastic article describing the direction the industry is heading and how some states such as Oregon are trying to limit the ability of owners to flow-down all risk to contractors. This is a must-read for anyone in the contracting industry.
