There are many aspects of business that relate to military strategy and operations. One of the biggest challenges faced by both business leaders and military leaders is accurate visualization and communication of the market, business or battlefield. Technology has brought many advances to both of these areas. It is interesting to look at the technology used by the military and imagine the business implications. This is an excellent article focused on some of the technologies used today to provide this intelligence in real time for military units moving across a battlefield.
These kinds of systems integrated with the intelligence gathering capabilities such as the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) have shrank the time between identification of a target and engagement/destruction to less than 20 minutes (see article on the Global Hawk for more information). How quickly to the systems in your organization notify you of potential problems, opportunities or just the status of your business? If you are like most business leaders you find yourself often thinking "If I would have known about that sooner I would have had time to react; now the damage is already done and the opportunity is lost."
The answer to this can be found by aligning your IT Systems, Accounting Systems, Customers and your People. It is only when these systems are fully aligned and streamlined that you can start to get good information in time to proactively act on it. Use this article to imagine "WHAT IF?"

Favorite Book 2007
The Toyota Way is my favorite book for 2007. It had so many good ideas that I could not keep up and ended up reading it again and even buying the Field Book to go along with it.
Download Elegant Solutions from Change This which provides some highlights of the Toyota Production System. Too many ideas that are applicable to contractors to even count!
